Obama and the democrats in Congress take some hits in the latest polls.

President Obama and other Democrats don’t fare very well in the latest Gallup Survey. It shows that support for Obama, among independent voters, has dipped below 40% for the first time. Just 38% of independents support Obama, which is an 18-point free fall over the past year. The poll results portend bad news for Obama and Democrats with the midterm elections approaching, says Gallup. Independent voters were a key group in getting Obama elected in 2008.

Overall, Gallup says, 46% of Americans approve of the job the President is doing. The President’s job performance rating has been under 50% since February. Meanwhile, a new Harris Poll finds that just 26% have a favorable view of Vice President Joe Biden, while 45% have a negative view of the job he’s done.

This is no surprise since just a few days ago other polls showed that Americans do not like the President’s economic policies. The vast majority believe that the people could do a better job than the President or Congress; and, they favored cutting government spending instead of borrowing more money from foreign countries like China.

The Congressional Budget Office, which is not affiliated with any political party - it works for the Congress - says large budget deficits would reduce national saving, leading to higher interest rates, more borrowing from abroad, and less domestic investment, which in turn would lower income growth in the United States.

Has America has been toying with socialism? And if so, are the chickens about to come home to roost?
