What’s the most important thing a man can do?

Seventy-one percent of American adults continue to believe that being a father is one of the most important roles a man can fill in today’s world. That’s according to a new Rasmussen Reports national poll. Bill Cosby once said, “Fatherhood is pretending the present you love the most is soap-on-a-rope.”

This year, most fathers got a gift, a visit or a phone call on Father’s Day. Men are much more likely to visit their fathers than women on Father’s Day. Women are twice as likely as men to call their fathers instead. Unmarried adults tend to visit their fathers more than those who are married.

Eighty percent of Americans believe that it’s very important for children to grow up in a home with both their parents. Seventy-two percent agree that children who grow up in a home with both parents have an advantage over children whose parents are divorced. However, if dads aren’t involved in their child’s life, if they don’t set a good example and explain why it’s wise not to do certain things, if they don’t watch over their children’s education, they shirk their duty a bit.

On the day after Father’s Day, President Obama stressed the importance of fatherhood and personal responsibility. Mr. Obama said that too many fathers are missing from too many homes. He said that it’s easy to become a father, but hard to live up to a lifetime of responsibility that comes with parenting.

Many suggest that another important thing for dads and moms to do is to accept Christ as their Savior so that they can bring those children up with respect for God, and, so that they too may accept Christ at the proper time.
