Man caves are growing in popularity in U.S. homes.

While a man’s home might be his castle, the man cave is his sanctuary — and they’re growing in popularity.  Two out of five home owners taking part in a Servicemaster.com Survey say they have a man cave in their house, while another 13% note they’re in the process of putting one together.  Creature comforts and quality entertainment systems appear to be necessities for a well-equipped man cave.

Flat screen TVs are the most popular item, featuring in 75% of existing man caves. Nearly 70% are furnished with recliners, quite a few have refrigerators. But each man cave really is as unique as the guy who owns it, and the decor will typically reflect his hobbies and interests.

Some men established their man caves because their families are tired of hearing them scream and holler through sports events on television. Not all wives are offended by the man caves. Some think it’s a good place for their stressed out husbands to go and unwind after a hard day at work.

Here’s my…Just call me an “old fuddy duddy”… my take on man caves. I was married for 38 and a half years to a fantastic lady. She was a wonder. When we played the newlywed game at parties we always won. Why? Because we spent a lot of time with each other. When I came home from work I wanted to be with her. Sure, I had some hobbies and spent some time on them. But none of them were as important as her. She died 7 years ago. If I had it to do all over again, I’d dump all my old hobbies and spend the time with her. Sir, don’t let yourself grieve some day over going to the man cave instead of spending time with your sweetheart.
