A tee shirt vendor alerts police to a bomb in New York City’s Times Square.

A mounted New York City police officer was flagged down, as you have probably heard by now, by this street vendor. He was alerted about a sport utility vehicle that looked suspicious. The officer rode his horse around the vehicle, and after seeing an unusual amount of material in the SUV, he called for help. Soon he was joined by a large number of other officers and firemen, and they inspected the suspicious vehicle.

Authorities cleared the crowded Times Square area after smoke was seen coming from the green Nissan Pathfinder and a small “flash” was spotted by fire fighters at the scene. Police found three propane tanks, consumer-grade fireworks, two five-gallon gas containers, two clocks, electrical wire and a metal box in that SUV.

The news wires and stations buzzed with the news. Radio and television soon reported the news and a concern reminiscent of the successful 9-11 attack. But this one, thank God, turned out to be a poorly constructed device and apparently posed no serious threat.

This raises the question of just how safe are we in America? The answer has to be, fairly safe. The Taliban in Pakistan were quick to claim responsibility for the attempted bombing. But authorities in the U.S. quickly dismissed that claim. As long as America supports Israel, we will always be hated in the Muslim/Arab world, I’m afraid.

It would be interesting though, don’t you think, to see the radical Islamists stop hating and start loving. For instance, why haven’t the Arabic nations taken care of the Palestinians. Perhaps it’s a lack of understanding and love; or, it could be for political purposes.
