When people play the lottery, they know that the odds are against them. It’s true in any kind of gambling, whether in Las Vegas, or picking up a lottery ticket at a local store. But the most serious gambling mistake any of us can make is thinking that everyone goes to heaven, or, that good people go to heaven.
Amazingly, a poll by the AARP finds a tremendous number of Americans gambling on going to heaven. Twenty-five percent said that people who “are good” get in. Another 10 percent said that people who “believe in one God” are welcomed into heaven. Likewise, about 10 percent took a come-one, come-all philosophy, saying that everyone gets into heaven. That totals 45 percent of older Americans.
There is solid evidence, however, that people in that 45 percent category are wrong. The accuracy of the Bible is uncanny. The translation of ancient scrolls, historical facts and even scientific evidence have all helped underscore the fact that the Bible is accurate. In the New Testament book of John, Jesus tells a wealthy religious leader that no one goes to heaven unless they are born again. In other words, we are obviously all born physically; but, we are not alive spiritually until we are born again by asking Jesus Christ to forgive us of our rebellion against God.
So, if you would rather not gamble on the after-life, you can get rock-solid reservations in heaven by asking Christ to forgive you, and then living the way he’d have you to.
