President Obama doesn’t like the new immigration law that is in effect in Arizona.

The President’s spokesman, Robert Gibbs, warns that Arizona’s tough new immigration law could inspire each state to craft its own immigration rules. Gibbs said immigration is a federal responsibility and argued that solving the growing crisis is long overdue.  He noted that the Justice Department is evaluating the Arizona state law with an eye on civil rights violations.

Meantime, Gibbs acknowledged a “crowded calendar” in Congress, but said lawmakers are capable of tackling immigration reform, energy legislation and financial regulatory reform this year. But the most active sheriff in Arizona says the White House has already sent federal inspectors to Arizona. He said they did so within two months of Obama’s inauguration and they haven’t been able to find any discrimination against immigrants by his deputies.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, Friday, signed into law a controversial immigration measure that allows police to question anyone about their immigration status under certain circumstances if there is “reasonable suspicion” they may be in Arizona illegally. Says she does not think the state’s tough new immigration will hurt Arizona’s economy even though Hispanic groups are calling for a boycott of Arizona’s tourist attractions.

U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Lindsey Graham unveiled a reform proposal back in March that would require illegal immigrants to admit they broke the law before they could gain legal status. Have you been able to get details about the democrats’ immigration proposal. I’ve found it hard to obtain. Shouldn’t the sponsors share the exact contents of the bill to all Americans so we can let our opinions be heard?

I have heard much more people discussing that the law is Unconstitutional under the Supremacy Clause. The Supremacy Clause forbids state and local laws that contradict federal laws in matters exactly where the federal government has authority to act.
Once again it only applies in situations exactly where the law contradicts the current law. Arizona’s law requires that State/Local authorities hand over suspect illegals to the proper federal authorities. Maybe you have forgetten (since we haven’t enforced these laws) but it’s still a crime to enter our country illegally.
But as long as we are talking about Constitutionality let’s talk about the Commerce Clause in the Constitution (Article I, Section 8) . This clause prohibits states and localities from passing laws that burden interstate or foreign commerce by, among other things, creating “discriminations favorable or adverse to commerce with specific foreign nations.”
Boycotting Arizona is UNCONSTITUTIONAL so knock it off already. Also to the Arizona government, how about we step up and actually file suit against these cities?
