A new survey shows more Americans watch television an hour before going to sleep than any other activity, including cuddling, prayer or surfing the internet. The National Sleep Foundation has just released the 2010 “Sleep in America” poll which is designed in part to measure differences in the sleep habits of Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics and whites.
An overwhelming 75% of African-Americans, 72% of Hispanics and 64% of whites report watching TV as the most frequent activity before bedtime. African-Americans are the most likely to pray before bed, 71% reporting praying or doing another religious activity, compared to 45% of Hispanics, 32% of whites and 18% of Asians. A few laughs a day is good for any of us. But we also need to spend some of our valuable time reading, studying, praying and if married, cuddling with our spouses.
It goes without saying that we will never absorbed all that’s in the Bible, even if we had several lifetimes. So daily Bible study is a good goal for all of us. My wife and I always spent a lot of time together, but I lost her 6 years ago and those moments are very precious to me now. My advice is if you still have your spouse enjoy every minute of your time together. Another really important thing we need to do at this critical stage in the light of American history is to find out more about the details of the just enacted healthcare reform law. There are some disturbing elements in it that perhaps we should all be aware of. Our time it is far more precious than, I think any of us really understand. Once a moment is gone, we can never relive it.
